OpenAI held its annual developer conference on October 7 at 12 AM Taiwan time (DevDay), officially announcing that ChatGPT has upgraded from a conversational tool to an "AI application platform." This year's theme focuses on five major new releases: Apps SDK, AgentKit, Codex, GPT-5 Pro, and Sora 2 API, along with the newly launched personalized feature ChatGPT Pulse, showcasing OpenAI's ecological expansion blueprint.
Apps SDK: Turn ChatGPT into an "App Store"
First, OpenAI has launched a new software development kit (Apps SDK), allowing developers to create interactive interface applications directly within ChatGPT.
This SDK is based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard, supporting database integration, action triggers, and external service integration. ChatGPT will also integrate an app directory and context recommendation features in the future.
For example, users can input "Help me arrange a party playlist," and ChatGPT can connect to Spotify to autonomously search and create; after uploading a sketch, ChatGPT can connect to Figma to directly generate an interactive design interface.
The first wave of partners includes Spotify, Figma, Booking.com, Canva, and Zillow, with Uber and AllTrails also joining later.
AgentKit: Create AI agents in just a few hours, become a business solution.
For enterprises and independent developers, OpenAI has launched AgentKit, allowing AI agents to be designed and deployed in just a few hours. The package includes three core tools:
AgentKit Interface: Visualized workflow
Agent Builder: Visual node design for agent workflows (workflow), supporting manual review and security control.
ChatKit: A chat module that can be embedded in websites or apps, supporting branded design.
Evals for Agents: Provides agent tracking, prompt optimization, and cross-model evaluation.
During the live demonstration, the developers completed an AI agent and went live in just eight minutes. CEO Sam Altman stated that this can be used for customer relationship management (CRM) and the retail sector, allowing individual developers and large companies to quickly deploy AI solutions.
Codex: Software Development Made Easier
At the same time, the program development AI model Codex has also concluded its two-year research testing period and officially launched. The new version adopts the GPT-5 architecture, enhancing code generation, refactoring, and long-task reasoning capabilities. OpenAI further pointed out that 70% of the internal code is generated by Codex, significantly improving review efficiency.
New features include:
Slack integration: You can directly @Codex in the chat room to request writing, expanding, and debugging code.
Codex SDK: Codex can be embedded into proprietary tools or platforms, automating the development process and expanding functionality at any time.
Enterprise Monitoring Interface: Comes with a dashboard for easy management and analysis by the team.
Model Upgrade: GPT-5 Pro, Realtime Mini, Sora 2 brings new breakthroughs
Altman announced multiple model updates:
GPT-5 Pro: Focused on high-precision reasoning, targeting professional fields such as finance, law, and healthcare.
GPT-Realtime-Mini: Voice interaction lightweight version, cost reduced by 70%.
Sora 2 API ( test ): The video generation model opens the API for the first time, supporting synchronization of sound and visuals, camera control, and ambient sound generation.
In the showcase video, Sora 2 can extend static photos into cinematic dynamic images, and partner Mattel has already used it for toy concept videos.
Pulse: ChatGPT transforms into a personal assistant, may introduce advertisements in the future.
Another highlight is OpenAI's latest personal assistant feature, ChatGPT Pulse. It can provide 5 to 10 personalized information cards each morning based on the user's conversation history, calendar, and email content, such as fitness suggestions, news summaries, or dinner recommendations.
Currently only available to ChatGPT Pro users, and Altman stated in response to a reporter's question that personalized advertising cannot be ruled out in the future.
OpenAI empowers developers in all aspects: everyone can use AI
With the conclusion of OpenAI DevDay 2025, Altman's goals seem to be becoming increasingly clear.
Opening the application distribution entry from the Apps SDK, AgentKit lowering the threshold for enterprise deployment, Codex and Sora redefining software and content creation, and Pulse moving towards an active intelligent assistant, all symbolize OpenAI gradually moving towards the positioning of an AI development platform, or even an "AI operating system."
As Altman's vision suggests, allowing everyone and every business to create their own applications within ChatGPT.
