On May 27, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Trump had a heated telephone conversation on how to deal with Iran, according to Israel's Channel 12, which contradicted previous statements that the two had reached a unified position on preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The two sides reportedly had sharp differences in the conversation, with Trump telling Netanyahu: "I hope to reach a diplomatic solution with the Iranians." I believe I have what it takes to make a good deal. Trump also stressed his interest in a deal that would serve the interests of both parties. Shortly before the report, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Noem told Fox News, "President Trump sent me here to talk with the [Israeli] Prime Minister about the progress of the negotiations and how important it is for us to stay united and get this process done." Noem called the meeting "very candid" and may have alluded to potential tensions.
