O
Having struggled in the Crypto Assets market for many years, I have witnessed countless myths of people becoming overnight millionaires, and I have also seen more tragedies of people losing everything in an instant.
Recently, during a dinner with my cousin, she asked me with teary eyes: 'Why did my $8000 investment disappear in just one day?' It turned out that she had invested all $7600 into ADA, even using 5x leverage without setting a stop-loss, resulting in her account being wiped out. Her actions reminded me of my own recklessness back in the day.
In 2020, I shorted Bitcoin with all but $300 of my $6000 investment, using 3x leverage. That night, Bitcoin rose by 5%, and my two years of savings evaporated in an instant. This painful lesson made me deeply understand that in the world of Crypto Assets, so-called 'all in' does not mean putting all your chips on the table, but rather leaving room for risk.
After years of exploration, I have summarized three survival rules:
First, the total position should not exceed 50%. Currently, in my $10,000 account, I will use at most half for trading, while the remaining half will be converted to USDC for safekeeping. Even if an operational mistake occurs, there will still be half of the funds available to make a comeback.
Secondly, the position of a single coin should not exceed 20%. Even with an operating capital of $5000, I will invest at most $1000 in a single coin. When SOL plummeted by 30% last year, my loss was limited to only $300, which is much better than investing everything.
Finally, set the stop-loss line strictly at 2% of the total funds. For example, when opening a contract with 5x leverage using $1000, set the stop-loss at 4%, with a maximum loss of $200, which is exactly 2% of the total funds.
A fan who once frequently faced liquidation grew his funds from $5,000 to $7,000 within six months after adopting these strategies. He realized: 'The true essence of going all-in is to leave yourself an escape route, rather than betting everything on a single chance.'
After eight years of exploration, I finally understand: the full position should be a shield, not a sharp blade. Control the funds in hand, and do not bet everything at once, so as to move steadily forward in this market. Preserving the principal means there is still a chance; once it is lost, the qualification to participate will be lost as well. In the crypto assets circle, rational investment is the way to last.
