Some Democrats Switch Sides to Support Senate Bill to End Government Shutdown On November 10, Jin10 reported that a group of moderate Democrats in the United States broke party lines and voted to support the protocol to end the record government shutdown, marking a key step toward reopening the government in the U.S. Senate. On Sunday evening local time, the Senate passed a procedural motion by a vote of 60 to 40 to advance the bill. The Senate has not yet scheduled a final vote. The House of Representatives also needs to approve the measure before it can be sent to President Trump for signing. Under the protocol, Congress will provide full-year funding for the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Congress itself, while funding for other agencies will be provided until January 30. The bill will pay wages to furloughed government workers, restore federal funds withheld from state and local governments, and rehire agency employees who were laid off during the shutdown. It is currently unclear how quickly the government shutdown can be ended. The Senate needs unanimous consent from all members to quickly end the shutdown, and any senator could delay it for several days through procedural means. House Speaker Johnson also stated that he would notify members two days in advance to return to Washington.

"Key voter for the 'end government shutdown plan' is rushing back to the Capitol due to flight delays" On November 10, news broke that the procedural vote on the "end government shutdown plan" is just one vote short of passing, but the key voter, Texas Senator John Cornyn, is currently rushing back to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. from out of state. According to community information, the reason John Cornyn was unable to arrive at the voting site on time is due to flight delays caused by the government shutdown.
