Analyst: Under the threat of quantum computing, ETH is more resilient than BTC.

Recently, Bankless co-founder David Hoffman suggested that even if Bitcoin collapses due to the threat of quantum computing, Ethereum will continue to operate independently.

Hoffman's point of view stems from Nic Carter's perspective that states: "If Bitcoin disappears, then cryptocurrency technology will also vanish, because all other cryptocurrencies revolve around Bitcoin."

Hoffman stated in response to Carter's post that Ethereum does not technically rely on Bitcoin, so the cessation of Bitcoin block operations will not affect the core functionality of the Ethereum network.

Hoffman further pointed out that while Bitcoin's demise may temporarily affect market confidence, the unique features and core values of the Ethereum ecosystem will remain unchanged.

More importantly, if Bitcoin really collapses, Ethereum may actually benefit from it, as both digital assets have significant monetary value, and the exit of one would create more favorable conditions for the other to become the mainstream digital currency.

It is worth noting that Hoffman's viewpoint has also been corroborated by researcher Scott Aaronson.

In a recent article, Aaronson stated that quantum computers capable of running Shor's algorithm may become a reality within a few years, which would directly threaten early Bitcoin wallets that use the ECDSA signature system, leading to the risk of private keys being compromised.

In contrast, Ethereum has been continuously preparing for these challenges for a long time. It has hidden the public key behind the address since the early days, only revealing it when needed, significantly reducing the success probability of quantum attacks.

At the same time, after completing various merger upgrades, Ethereum further strengthened the security protection of validator withdrawal keys, forming a multi-dimensional security defense system.

In the future, the Ethereum upgrade plan will also improve through Verkle trees and the EOF layer, achieving a smooth transition from ECDSA to a quantum-resistant signature system.

In summary, these systematic technological upgrades and innovations not only solidify the technical foundation of Ethereum but also enhance its adaptability and sustainable development potential in the face of emerging threats such as quantum computing, laying a solid foundation for its long-term ecological evolution.
