Hinge introduced an AI feature for dating recommendations - ForkLog: cryptocurrencies, AI, singularity, future
The dating app Hinge has introduced an AI feature called Convo Starters, which provides personalized advice for starting conversations, TechCrunch reports.
Many users are frustrated when they are matched with partners who simply like profiles but don’t initiate a conversation. This often leads to awkward silence, with the responsibility for making the first move falling on one person.
Instead of creative introductions, users often start dialogues with generic phrases like “How are you?”
Convo Starters offers three personalized tips under each photo. The artificial intelligence evaluates the user’s profile and generates recommendations based on images or prompts. For example, if a potential match is sitting at a chessboard, Hinge might suggest starting a conversation about board games.
Those who add a comment are twice as likely to arrange a date.
Hinge is a popular American dating app positioned as a platform for finding serious relationships. For a long time, its slogan was the app designed to be deleted—an app you should delete once you find a match.
Convo Starters may not appeal to everyone. A Bloomberg Intelligence survey showed that millennials feel less comfortable using artificial intelligence for profile creation or message replies.
Despite this, AI is increasingly becoming a tool for dating. In April, Tinder launched a neural-network-based game to help users practice flirting skills.
The game offers a deck of cards, each depicting various AI personalities and scenarios. The goal is to score a date with a bot through voice communication.
During the conversation, the AI gives advice. For example, if the user is being rude or behaving inappropriately, the AI will suggest toning down the sarcasm or switching topics. At the end, a rating is given on a three-point scale.
Recall that in 2021, the total damage from fraud on online dating services reached $547 million, with one-fifth of this amount related to cryptocurrencies.
