Trust Wallet confirms 2,596 wallet addresses affected; identity verification for compensation is accelerating.
Trust Wallet officially announced the latest developments regarding the browser extension v2.68 security incident. According to a statement by CEO Eowync.eth on the X platform, a total of 2,596 wallet addresses have been identified as involved in this security vulnerability. This clear figure indicates significant progress in pinpointing the scope of the security event, and the team is systematically advancing the subsequent compensation plan.
5,000 Compensation Requests: Genuine or Fake, Verifying Wallet Addresses Is Key
After the security incident, Trust Wallet received approximately 5,000 compensation requests. However, many of these submissions were duplicates or invalid, with some malicious actors attempting to impersonate victims by forging information to fraudulently claim compensation. This has made accurately verifying the true ownership of each wallet address a critical challenge. If genuine requests cannot be effectively distinguished from fraudulent ones, there is a risk that compensation funds could be misappropriated, further harming actual victims.
Multi-Dimensional Data Cross-Verification to Prevent Fake Claims
To address this issue, Trust Wallet has implemented a more rigorous verification mechanism. The team is conducting cross-validation across multiple data sources, including on-chain data, user accounts, and transaction records, to differentiate genuine victims from malicious submitters. Although this multi-dimensional verification process is time-consuming, it ensures that each compensation fund is directed to the correct wallet address. Some cases have already led to relatively clear conclusions, but the overall process is still ongoing.
The team stated that they will prioritize accuracy over speed, and will announce further progress as soon as possible, ensuring the safe return of funds. It is reported that Trust Wallet plans to release new compensation details and a timeline within the next day.
