Rational Thinking During a Market Crash:
Don't bet on luck; the bottom is forged through experience
The current market continues to plummet, and many people are struggling with whether to buy the dip. However, according to market principles, in this environment, upward movement is far more difficult to achieve than downward movement. Blindly piling into positions to buy the dip is likely to result in "catching a falling knife."
Why is it easier for prices to fall than to rise?
In the current market environment, it doesn't take many chips to break through support levels one after another. As panic spreads, selling pressure can easily lead to a stampede, making the decline almost resistance-free.
But once a rebound begins, each step faces numerous hurdles: overhead resistance from trapped positions at high levels, which can trigger selling pressure to exit positions; funds attempting to buy the dip at low levels, who may rush to take profits at the slightest gain; even bullish traders might switch to bearish positions en masse. Under this double pressure, rebounds are often fleeting.
Many people always hope to buy at the "lowest point," but the true bottom is never achieved overnight, nor is it something you can gamble on luck to find. Only through multiple oscillations and retests, digesting the trapped positions above, and solidifying the foundation can the market clearly identify the true direction. Before that, any seemingly strong rally could be a trap to lure in buyers.
Of course, a sudden strong surge in the market is possible, but such cases are more about luck, and we should not treat investing like gambling.
What’s more, in extreme market conditions, a continuous decline like a "one-word cliff" can occur at any time. Once heavily invested positions are trapped, not only can funds shrink significantly, but the trader’s mindset can also be completely shattered.
Finally, a reminder:
In the current market, surviving is more important than making money. Keep your hands in check, avoid heavy positions when buying the dip, patiently wait for the bottom structure to form, and only act when clear signals appear on the right side. This is the safest approach.
