Poll: Over 70% of Europeans Worried About War, Call for EU to Enhance Independence
People’s Financial News, March 24 — According to reports, as the Ukraine conflict enters its fifth year and tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, European public concern over security has significantly increased. The latest EU poll shows that over 70% of respondents are “highly concerned” about conflicts around the EU. Among them, Spain (84%), Italy (83%), and Cyprus (80%) have the highest levels of concern; while Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, and the Czech Republic are relatively lower. In terms of energy, Italy (78%), Spain (75%), and Poland (73%) are most worried about external energy dependence; Denmark, Lithuania, and Sweden show lower levels of concern. On defense issues, about two-thirds of Europeans support the EU playing a greater role in security matters and reducing reliance on non-EU countries. Additionally, 89% of respondents believe EU member states should be more united. (CCTV News)
