On March 27, Apple announced plans to open Siri to third-party AI assistants in the upcoming iOS 27 update. iOS 27 will introduce a new mechanism called ‘Extensions,’ allowing users to integrate third-party AIs such as Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude into Siri through the settings panel. Extensions will be a standard protocol, enabling any qualifying AI application to connect. Siri will transition from being a single entry point for ChatGPT to a universal AI routing layer.
