Google Gemini Launches 'Migration' Tool for Importing ChatGPT Conversations and Preferences

According to monitoring by 1M AI News, Google has launched a ‘Migration Tool’ for Gemini, allowing both free and paid users to import memories, preferences, and complete conversation histories from other AI chat applications into Gemini. This feature is rolling out to consumer accounts starting today. The tool includes two main functions: 1. Memory Import: Users can obtain a preset prompt on the Gemini settings page, paste it into their current AI application, which will automatically generate a summary covering user preferences, relationships, and personal background. This summary can then be pasted back into Gemini to complete the import. 2. Conversation History Import: Users can upload a ZIP file of chat history exported from other AI providers, allowing them to search past conversations in Gemini and continue previous discussions. Additionally, Google has renamed Gemini’s ‘Past Chats’ feature to ‘Memory.’ The tool is currently not available for enterprise accounts or users under 18, and it has not yet been opened to users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland. Earlier this month, Anthropic introduced a similar memory import feature for Claude.
