The number of international technology organizations established in Beijing has reached 53.
China News Service, Beijing, March 18 (Reporter Chen Hang) Beijing Deputy Mayor Jin Wei said at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the 18th that international science and technology organizations have increasingly clustered and developed in Beijing. Last year, four new international science and technology organizations were added, bringing the total number in Beijing to 53, and Chaoyang District has built the first headquarters cluster area for international science and technology organizations nationwide.
Jin Wei said that strengthening international scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation and gathering global innovation resource elements are essential for building the Beijing (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) international science and technology innovation center.
Beijing is creating a more globally competitive open innovation ecosystem and continuously deepening international exchanges and cooperation. Jin Wei said that the International Conference on Basic Sciences held in Beijing every year has gradually become a gathering where the world’s top scholars discuss the future of science. The IASP 2025 World Conference on International Science Parks and Innovation Regions, to be held in Beijing in 2025, will attract representatives from 97 countries and regions, and the “Zhongguancun Initiative” released will embody the wisdom and consensus of global science park communities.
Beijing is making in-depth efforts to promote global industrial coordination. Jin Wei said that in 2025, the number of newly established foreign-invested enterprises in Beijing increased by nearly 20% year on year, and the total number of foreign-invested R&D centers reached 332. Cambridge University and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area carry out innovation cooperation; the German Fraunhofer Technology Transfer Center, the U.K. P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator, and others have come to Beijing for development. AstraZeneca has set up its sixth global strategic R&D center in Beijing. Multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly, Sanofi, and Johnson & Johnson have all moved to Beijing.
Beijing is actively participating in global innovation governance, and is continuously accelerating the development of world-class science and technology journals. Jin Wei said that over the past three years, Beijing has added more than 60 English science and technology journals, and 10 journals such as “Computable Visual Media” have taken first place worldwide in comprehensive evaluation of influence rankings within their fields.
“Beijing is a fertile ground for technological and innovative development.” Jin Wei said that Beijing will promote reform with openness and drive development with reform, to achieve international exchanges and cooperation on a larger scale, in wider areas, and at a deeper level. (End)
