Xinhua News Agency Moscow, March 25—The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on March 25 that strikes on Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant would cause irreversible consequences. Power plant staff, including Russian personnel, are being threatened, “which is absolutely unacceptable.”

A statement published on the Russian foreign ministry’s website on March 25 said that although the U.S. side claimed it would postpone strikes on Iran’s power-generating facilities, on March 24 extremely dangerous strikes were carried out near the generator units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The Russian side is “deeply outraged at such audacious and irresponsible sabotage.”

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that strikes on the Bushehr nuclear power plant would cause irreversible humanitarian and environmental consequences. Now such strikes are approaching the generator units of the nuclear power plant. The safety of life of the plant staff, including Russian experts, is being continuously threatened. For Russia, “this is absolutely unacceptable.”

The statement emphasized that Russia demands that attacks be stopped on Iran’s nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Russia expects the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations to clearly and unambiguously state their positions and take decisive action to prevent such attacks from happening again.

According to a report by the Rossiya Segodnya news agency on March 25, the Kremlin press secretary Peskov said in Moscow that day that at present it is not possible to ensure that the Bushehr nuclear power plant will not be attacked again. The Russian side will hold dialogue with the relevant parties and urge them not to take such dangerous actions.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant is located outside the southern Iranian city of Bushehr, built along the shores of the Persian Gulf. It is Iran’s only nuclear power plant in operation. The plant’s fuel is provided by Russia and, after use, is sent back to Russia. Russia has several hundred staff members there.

Citing information from Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization reported by Iran’s Mehr News Agency, at around 21:08 local time on March 24, Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant was attacked again by the United States and Israel. Preliminary reports showed that no damage was done to the different areas of the nuclear power plant, and there were no losses of property, technology, or personnel.
