AI Empowers Industry Upgrades: International Entrepreneurs Offer Suggestions on Beijing's Openness and Innovation

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 20 (Reporter Xu Jing) The 17th Beijing International Entrepreneurs’ Consultant Conference (referred to as the “International Consultant Conference”) was held in Beijing from March 19 to 20, where guests from various sectors exchanged ideas on topics such as the development trends of the technology industry, global industrial innovation collaboration, and the construction and governance of megacities.

“The world can learn a lot from Beijing’s scientific research strength, development speed, and industrial scale, and vice versa.” At the conference held on the 20th, AstraZeneca’s Global CEO Pascal Soriot introduced that after announcing an additional investment of approximately 18 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) in Beijing last year, AstraZeneca announced in January this year that it would invest 100 billion yuan in China by 2030.

He believes that AI will change the entire process of drug discovery, development, production, and ultimately benefiting patients. Beijing already possesses remarkable advantages in this area and should establish closer ties with global leading innovation ecosystems, continue to strengthen supportive innovation policies, and promote the development of public health.

“The current wave of technological innovation centered around artificial intelligence is transitioning from the ‘experimental phase’ of technological breakthroughs to the ‘scalable application phase’ of deep integration with the economy and society.” Jennifer Ai, Chair of Deloitte Global Council, suggested that Beijing should build a “native AI” megacity by creating a global innovation hub for physical AI and leading new models of human-computer collaboration. She stated that Deloitte China will leverage its rich global network resources, deep industry accumulation, and forward-looking professional insights to actively empower Beijing’s innovation exploration and practical implementation in these areas, contributing to the high-quality development of the capital.

James Kwan, Chairman of the Hong Kong MTR Corporation, focused on the development of Beijing’s night economy, believing that the night economy is an extension of the city’s daytime activities, with most of the venues and facilities required located in the urban built-up area, serving as a good platform for leveraging the existing economy. He said that Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong could explore a “Beijing-Shanghai-Hong Kong cultural and creative industry corridor” to assist in the high-quality development of the cultural industry.

The Beijing International Entrepreneurs’ Consultant Conference was established in 1999, with consultant members comprising top executives from Fortune Global 500 multinational companies and renowned institutions, and the secretariat is located at the Beijing Council for the Promotion of International Trade. The International Consultant Conference currently has 38 consulting units and has played a positive role in promoting the development of international enterprises in Beijing and deepening Beijing’s opening-up.
