Andres Lopez Concludes Leadership at O-I Glass with Planned Succession
Glass industry leader O-I Glass announced that long-serving executive Andres Lopez will conclude his tenure as Chief Executive Officer, with the transition taking effect in May 2024. This leadership change concludes Lopez’s remarkable four-decade association with the Company, during which he ascended through various senior management roles across O-I’s worldwide operations before assuming the CEO position in early 2016.
A 40-Year Career at O-I Glass
Andres Lopez joined O-I Glass back in 1986, building an extensive career across the organization’s global infrastructure. Over nearly four decades, Lopez progressed through multiple executive positions, ultimately reaching the helm of the Company as Chief Executive Officer. His extended tenure reflects both his deep expertise in the industry and the confidence placed in him by the organization’s leadership. The trajectory of Lopez’s career demonstrates the depth of organizational knowledge he has accumulated throughout his time at O-I.
Strategic Succession Planning in Motion
The Board of Directors has already engaged an executive search firm to identify and evaluate candidates for O-I’s next Chief Executive Officer as part of a comprehensive long-term succession strategy. Andres Lopez has committed to facilitating a smooth transition of all operational responsibilities to his designated successor, ensuring continuity in O-I’s strategic direction. This planned approach to leadership transition reflects the Company’s commitment to maintaining stability during periods of executive change.
Board Transition and Organizational Continuity
Concurrent with his retirement from day-to-day leadership, Lopez will also resign from his position on the O-I Board of Directors effective at the Company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders scheduled for May 15, 2024. This dual transition—both from executive management and board governance—marks a significant organizational milestone for O-I Glass as it enters a new chapter under fresh leadership.
The deliberate, planned nature of this succession process underscores O-I Glass’s commitment to strategic foresight and organizational stability during transitions at the highest levels of Company leadership.
