China News Network March 24 (reporters Chen Su Wang Shibo) During the Boao Forum for Asia 2026 Annual Conference, Jiang Xia Juan, former deputy secretary-general of the State Council and chairman of the National Data Expert Advisory Committee, and honorary president of the China Industrial Economics Society, said that AI has brought very significant benefits in improving quality and efficiency. However, as things stand, the number of jobs that AI replaces is far greater than the number of jobs it newly creates. We need to pay attention to the food and livelihood of many people in the current stage of AI development, and we must treat it with caution. We should be particularly cautious about that kind of AI which simply replaces labor without delivering actual improvements in quality and efficiency. For example, some AI only replaces people in cities who perform specific tasks, but its research and development investment and its price are both more expensive than human labor. For such AI, we need to develop it cautiously. Jiang Xia Juan believes that when it comes to fairness, it cannot be left entirely to the market to resolve; the government must certainly play an important role.
