On March 27 local time, the spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ibrahim Rezaei, stated on social media that Iran’s continued membership in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons has become “pointless,” as the treaty has not brought Iran any substantial benefits. Rezaei pointed out that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons has not only failed to protect Iran from attacks by nuclear powers but has also led to repeated attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, with international documents and agreements being completely disregarded. He stated that the United States has withdrawn from over 60 international organizations and conventions, and if Iran chooses to withdraw from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the West may express surprise and opposition, but “now is the time to leave.” (CCTV News)
