Recently, Mr. Pan in Shanghai told reporters that the “Ming Tea-flavored Cookie Gift Box” he purchased at Sam’s Club has issues with missing and incorrectly labeled ingredients.

The cookies contain undeclared allergenic ingredients

Shanghai regulatory authorities have filed a case

Mr. Pan said that previously he bought 10 boxes of the Ming Tea-flavored Cookie Gift Box at the Sam’s Club Shanghai Baoshan store and the Shaoxing Yuecheng store, respectively. During consumption, he found that in the “Nutty Chocolate Crispy Cookie” inside the gift box, there were additional ingredients that appeared to be pumpkin seed kernels. At the same time, the “Butter Nut Tart Cookie” had an abnormal almond taste.

A few days after Mr. Pan reported the issue to the store, the product was taken off the shelves. Mr. Pan then filed complaints with the market regulation authorities in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. A reply from the Shaoxing Yuecheng District Market Supervision Administration stated that the ingredient list for the gift box failed to list pumpkin seed kernels, and incorrectly wrote “almonds” as “almonds.”

In a text message reply, the Baoshan District Market Supervision Administration of Shanghai said: “Regarding the behavior alleged in the complaint by the respondent suspected of selling food that does not meet national food safety standards, a case has been filed and an investigation is underway.”

Sam’s Club says it has taken everything off the shelves

The manufacturer did not respond

Mr. Pan believes that other consumers may continue eating it without knowing, and it should be recalled immediately. According to information, both almonds and pumpkin seed kernels may trigger allergic reactions, and almonds carry a higher risk for children, people with allergic tendencies, and other groups who are allergic to nuts.

Staff at the Sam’s Club Shanghai Baoshan store said the product has already been fully removed from the shelves and that they require the supplier to make corrections. Regarding why there was no public announcement or recall, the staff member said that later they would ask the supplier to review and then, based on the results, assess the situation and communicate with members.

The product packaging shows that the manufacturer is Longbao Food (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. The reporter called the company; the staff member said that a designated person will respond later.
