American Express is currently offering NFT passport stamps for travelers.
American Express (Amex) has just launched a digital travel stamp on the blockchain, stored as an ERC-721 NFT on the Ethereum layer-2 Base. This initiative helps customers preserve memories of their journeys as physical passport stamps become increasingly obsolete.
According to Amex, the stamp can be personalized with standout experiences such as attractions, meals, or hotels. However, only Amex cardholders spending in the US are eligible, and the NFT is non-transferable. Each stamp only displays the country/region, description, and date received, ensuring no personal information is disclosed.
A survey by Amex shows that 73% of customers want more ways to commemorate their digital trips, while 56% miss traditional passport stamps. The stamps can be shared on social media or saved to devices. This move reflects the trend of cryptocurrency gradually penetrating the travel industry, which is seeing more and more businesses accepting payments in cryptocurrency.
