DoraHacks Blueprint

Written by Eric Zhang

11 years ago, I was still in college, and at that time I wrote a letter outlining the idea of creating a hacker community that connects creative ideas and promotes collaboration. This idea later gave birth to an enthusiasts community called DoraHacks, which around 2017 evolved into an interesting global hackathon organizer, and now it has become a major platform for the global Hacker Movement.

Today, DoraHacks has entered a fairly mature stage, becoming the preferred platform for the global hackathon community, and has achieved the two goals I set at the beginning:

  1. Organizations of any size, whether small open-source communities or global tech giants, can easily initiate hackathons on DoraHacks. More importantly, the basic features have always been free and accessible to everyone.
  2. It connects hackers (BUIDLers) around the world with hackathons (technical platforms). DoraHacks eliminates geographic limitations in the hacker community, allowing anyone, anywhere, to team up, create, and participate.

This year, the release of BUIDL AI has further accelerated this process. Many organizers have started using BUIDL AI 3.0 and are benefiting from it. However, the current BUIDL AI system is still in its early stages. Therefore, now is a suitable time to share DoraHacks' next steps.

But before we begin, I want to reiterate that the global hacker movement is crucial because it represents freedom for everyone: the freedom to create, the freedom to build and to seek knowledge. We have ensured that this freedom is unrestricted, and now the goal is to elevate it to a new level. With the help of BUIDL AI and a more powerful DoraHacks.io platform, the hacker movement will no longer just be a stage for the top 1% of developers, but one that belongs to everyone.

This is an evolution that must happen. The rise of artificial intelligence and general-purpose robots means that humanity must become "hackers" in order to continue to control its own destiny. Otherwise, a world similar to "The Matrix," "1984," or "Battlestar Galactica" is not impossible. Becoming a hacker is the mission of all future generations — because only creativity is humanity's true redemption.

This is the next mission of DoraHacks.

###Build a Fully Autonomous Hackathon AI for a Fully Automated Hackathon Community

So far, according to the definition of the Hacker Ethos, DoraHacks.io is currently the most complete and systematic hackathon platform. The current BUIDL AI system (BUIDL AI 3.0) is an automated layer integrated on DoraHacks.io and will gradually evolve into a fully autonomous hackathon AI organizer – "Hackathon AI".

For technology platforms, hackathons are the most effective way to build ecosystems; for hackers, they are the best scenario for high-intensity collaboration in a short time. BUIDL AI is not just an automation tool—it defines the ontology of hackathons and is becoming the most powerful "co-organizer" of various organizations' hackathons. The system architecture we designed for BUIDL AI 3.0 allows for flexible scalability. Given time, the number of BUIDL AI Agents (intelligent agents) running on the DoraHacks platform will exceed human operators. This will significantly reduce organizational costs, enabling any organization in the world to easily host hackathons.

The popularity of "Hackathon AI" will enable every organization and community on Earth to host hackathons — even holding numerous events each year. Currently, the DoraHacks platform hosts about 500 hackathons annually, giving rise to 20,000 BUIDL teams and distributing a total of 80 million dollars in funding to the BUIDL community; approximately 3,000 organizations have already signed up. When BUIDL AI 3.0 is adopted by 1,000 mainstream technology platform organizations, these numbers are expected to increase tenfold — which means approximately 200,000 new BUIDL teams and 1 million hackers with genuine problem-solving abilities and creativity will emerge each year.

However, we will not stop at "Hackathon AI", because the most important output of the hackathon is the continuously growing BUIDL community — they raise critical questions and bring new products and solutions to the world.

###BUIDL AI 4.0 - Extending the Hackathon Lifecycle, Enhancing Organizational DevRel Capabilities

While expanding the "Hackathon AI" capabilities, we are also extending the lifecycle of hackathons on DoraHacks and changing the way organizations use hackathons to coordinate their ecological development. The traditional concept of developer relations (DevRel) will evolve and be empowered by BUIDL AI 4.0.

As we extend the lifecycle of hackathons, it will encompass the complete journey of all BUIDLs created during the hackathon. In the past, once the hackathon ended, organizers often lacked the tools to continue following up with the teams. To achieve this, we will launch BUIDL AI 4.0, focusing on the "latter half" of the hackathon, covering the most critical and time-consuming DevRel work, helping organizations build ecosystems more efficiently.

When DevRel is fully automated, the product iteration speed of technical platforms will significantly increase, and the success rate of incubating the next generation of technology platforms will also improve.

According to estimates, if 10,000 organizations adopt BUIDL AI 4.0 (which operates independently of 3.0, relying solely on the DoraHacks platform), and each organization connects with an average of 100 BUIDL teams, it means that an additional 1 million BUIDL teams will be created — this will drive 1% of the global population to become hackers in the next 3-5 years.

###BUIDL AI 5.0 - Always connecting global hackers and BUIDL's "Cerebro"

DoraHacks.io has established the first layer of connection with "Hackathon AI" - allowing hackers, BUIDL, and hackathons to interact across regional limitations on the platform. However, the deeper connection is the continuous evolution of BUIDL and its creative spirit.

DoraHacks aims to build a brain center (Cerebro) for the global hacker movement.

We often tell our partners that hackathons are a manifestation of the "Zeitgeist". The development of AI means that in the future, almost everyone may become a hacker, as "purposeful creativity" will define humanity. At the same time, the boundaries between hackers and developers are changing rapidly. In the past, the global hacker community was just a small part of developers—about 1% of the total number of developers—those who aspired to create products or solve significant problems. Today, as the costs of programming and building approach zero, the hacker community may surpass the developers.

Just like Professor X's brainwave computer, Cerebro BUIDL AI will always connect all the BUIDLs in the world, becoming a super partner for hacker teams globally. It provides information, inspiration, and companionship, maximizing the chances of successful BUIDL. As this network forms, BUIDL AI will become the "brain" of the global hacking movement.

So, our next step is:

  • Promote Hackathon AI towards complete unsupervised autonomy;
  • Build BUIDL AI 4.0 to comprehensively enhance the developer relations (DevRel) capabilities of all technology organizations on the platform;
  • Connect with the global BUIDL community at all times through Cerebro BUIDL AI, enabling 1% of the world's population to become hackers.
