Why was I questioned like a criminal for taking out 40,000 yuan?

Abstract generation in progress

A lawyer in Shandong withdrew 40,000 in cash from the Construction Bank and was stopped by the teller who questioned the purpose of the funds. The lawyer shot back on the spot: “Isn't this my privacy?” As a result, the bank insisted on verifying with the anti-fraud center and even threatened “if you don't cooperate, we'll report it.” This gentleman simply turned around and left.

The matter exploded online. Netizens complained one after another: the original intention of preventing fraud is not wrong, but doing it this way is equivalent to treating every depositor as a suspect, forcing them to prove their innocence. The bank leaders apologized afterwards, but the lawyer's attitude was firm – this is not just my issue; it is a concern that everyone is experiencing.

🤔 Where is the problem? Anti-fraud measures should focus on the source (where the scammers come from), rather than taking money from the common people and creating obstacles for opening accounts. Depositing and withdrawing money feels like being interrogated at the police station; who would still dare to save money properly?

In simple terms, banks are service institutions, not law enforcement agencies. No matter how important anti-fraud measures are, they should not become an “excuse for arbitrary penalties.” If we really want to stop fraud, we need to address it at the source, rather than gradually eroding the trust of honest people.
