Quick Breakdown

  • Bitnomial launches the first CFTC-regulated leveraged spot crypto exchange in the U.S.
  • The platform unifies spot, perpetuals, futures, and options with portfolio margin.
  • Move introduces fully compliant, capital-efficient leveraged crypto trading for retail and institutions.

Bitnomial is set to launch the first-ever leveraged retail spot crypto exchange to operate under complete oversight from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), marking a major regulatory shift for digital asset trading in the United States. The launch, scheduled for the week of December 8, 2025, brings leveraged spot crypto trading into the same regulatory structure that governs U.S. futures, perpetuals, and options markets.

CFTC framework enables unified, regulated crypto trading

Operating through its Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO), Bitnomial’s new platform will allow both retail and institutional traders to access leveraged spot trading with the protections of U.S. derivatives market infrastructure.

The exchange offers net settlement and unified portfolio margin across spot, perpetuals, futures, and options, removing redundant collateral requirements and allowing traders to offset risk across all product types on a single venue.

Bitnomial says this model eliminates counterparty risk through broker intermediation and clearinghouse settlement, while ensuring equal treatment of orders. All trades, retail and institutional, are executed without preferential routing or information advantages.

Industry credits regulatory breakthrough for new market access

Bitnomial attributes the regulatory opening to the work of CFTC Acting Chair Caroline Pham, whose support enabled retail commodity transactions to be offered on a DCM and cleared by a DCO. This removes the longstanding reliance on state-level money transmitter licensing for spot crypto platforms, a barrier that previously restricted institutional participation.

CEO Luke Hoersten said the launch restores leveraged spot crypto trading to the U.S. under a regulatory framework capable of supporting capital-efficient, risk-managed activity.

Bitnomial currently operates CFTC-regulated exchange, clearing, and brokerage subsidiaries and lists perpetuals, physical futures, and options tied to its Bitcoin Complex® and Crypto Complex®, which include BTC, Hashrate, XRP, ADA, USDC, and other assets.

In a parallel milestone, Bitnomial has self-certified the first-ever perpetual futures contracts listed on a U.S. exchange, a historic achievement in the evolution of regulated crypto markets.
