The push highlights a shift toward simpler recovery tools and greater protection from seed phrase failures.

Bitkey starts private retail distribution in the US

Bitkey confirmed through an announcement on X that US customers can order the wallet and collect it from FedEx, Dollar General, Albertsons, Kroger and thousands of Walmart locations. The ordering process only requires minimal personal information when buyers choose Bitcoin payments and pickup delivery. The device features a sleek design and targets users who want stronger self-custody without traditional seed phrase risks.

The team behind Square and Cash App created Bitkey and ships it to 95 countries. The hardware wallet aims to improve access for users who want private collection options while keeping personal details off shipping labels.

## Seedless multisig design reduces single points of failure

Bitkey removes the seed phrase model and replaces it with a three-key system. Most hardware wallets rely on 12 or 24-word seed phrases that can be damaged, stolen or lost. Bitkey argues that seed phrases create a single point of failure and expose users to simple scams.

The wallet uses a multisig setup with one key stored on the user’s phone, another in the physical device and the third on Bitkey’s server. The design allows users to recover their Bitcoin even if they lose their phone or hardware wallet. Each component acts independently and improves recovery security.

Two key signing processes improve control and recovery

Users need two of the three keys to approve transactions. The process usually involves the phone and the hardware wallet working together. To spend Bitcoin, users tap the device on the back of their phone in a simple motion similar to Apple Pay. The system can withstand the loss of a single device because the server and remaining key support recovery.

Recovery Contacts offer another fallback option when both the phone and hardware wallet are lost. Users assign trusted contacts during initial setup and can rely on them during worst-case events.

Bitkey recently partnered with Strike. US customers can now buy Bitcoin directly through the Strike app and transfer it to Bitkey without friction. The move supports Dorsey’s broader goal of building open Bitcoin tools for global users. Block Inc. shares remain under pressure. Data shows the stock has fallen 7.83% in the past month and trades at $61.57.
