Bhutan government bets on gold tokenization: RWA advances from corporate experiments to national-level applications

The Gletep City Governance Bureau (that’s Bhutan’s GMC) recently engaged Matrixport’s RWA platform Matrixdock for technical support, to build the underlying architecture for their gold token TER. In simple terms, it’s about mapping real gold to the blockchain, allowing citizens to hold gold assets through digital wallets.

Eva Meng, the person in charge at Matrixdock, said something quite straightforward: “This is essentially a sovereign nation experimenting with a new model of digital finance. Our previous experience in gold tokenization can help Bhutan build a reliable financial system that ordinary people can understand.”

This news signals two things: first, the RWA route has moved from corporate-level experiments to national-level applications, no longer just a PPT phase; second, platforms like Matrixdock that build infrastructure for asset tokenization now have the technical maturity to meet sovereign project compliance and security standards.

To put it simply, when a country begins to rebuild its financial system using blockchain technology, the entire RWA track’s potential expands significantly.
