Statue of Satoshi Nakamoto Erected at the NYSE

What until recently seemed an unlikely idea has become a reality. This was stated by artist Valentina Picozzi when presenting the new statue of Satoshi Nakamoto installed at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). “We hadn’t even thought about placing a statue in this location,” she wrote on her X account.

The work was commissioned by Twenty One Capital, the Bitcoin treasury firm led by Jack Mallers. This piece is the sixth statue created by Satoshigallery as part of a global project planning to place 21 sculptures around the world, a symbolic number representing the 21 million BTC that make up the maximum supply of the cryptocurrency.

The placement within the NYSE itself did not go unnoticed. The official account of the historic stock exchange praised the initiative and described it as “a shared ground between emerging systems and established institutions.”

This symbolic gesture by Twenty One Capital and the artistic team behind the work is significant: it summarizes the growing integration of Bitcoin into the traditional financial system, an environment that for years was resistant to its presence.

It is also worth mentioning that the chosen date was not accidental. December 10th coincides with the anniversary of the mailing list used by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, a key milestone in the history of the protocol.

Satoshi Nakamoto’s statue gradually conquers the world

This collection of sculptures includes a total of 21 pieces located in symbolic places. The work presented at the NYSE is number 6. The previous five are located in Miami, El Salvador, Switzerland, Vietnam, and Japan.

Each statue shares a design that visually fades when surrounded, an effect that symbolizes both the mystery surrounding the creator of Bitcoin’s identity and his enduring influence within the community. For many enthusiasts, Nakamoto is an almost mythical figure, even though his identity will probably never be revealed.

Picozzi, creator of the Satoshigallery project, summarizes her artistic vision with the phrase: “images create culture, culture shapes values, and values determine the future.” The destinations of the next 15 sculptures have not yet been confirmed.

The installation of the statue at the NYSE occurs in a sensitive context for the crypto market. After the recent rate cut announced by the Federal Reserve, Bitcoin’s price did not show the expected rebound and retreated again.

Twenty One Capital got off to a rough start on the stock exchange

Meanwhile, Mallers’ firm — responsible for commissioning this new statue — did not have the best start in its stock market debut. Twenty One Capital went public via a SPAC with Cantor Equity Partners.

During its first day on Tuesday, the shares fell by -20%. By Wednesday, they managed a partial recovery of 4.73%, closing at $11.96 per unit, according to Yahoo Finance data. However, the price remains far from the previous close of the SPAC at $14.27 per share.

Bitcoin treasury-focused companies are going through a complex moment, marked by a noticeable lack of investors. The retreat in their shares even preceded the overall crypto market crash that began on October 10th.

According to Mallers, this phase should be interpreted as a temporary correction within a sector that considers itself promising in the long term.
