Florida announces a cryptocurrency scam case, seizing $1.5 million in cryptocurrency

Mars Finance reports that on December 13, according to Decrypt, the Florida prosecutor’s office seized approximately $1.5 million in cryptocurrency related to overseas suspect (Chinese citizen Tu Weizhi), which includes AVAX, DOGE, PEPE, and SOL. The state’s cyber fraud enforcement division has obtained a court order to freeze assets under Tu Weizhi’s name. Tu Weizhi is currently charged with money laundering, major theft, and organized fraud. Florida authorities stated that if Tu Weizhi attempts to enter the United States, he will be arrested. Investigators pointed out that the seizure was the result of an investigation that began in July 2024, when a resident of Citrus County reported a loss of $47,421. The resident transferred the money to a project that appeared to be an online investment. The investigation ultimately linked this fund to a wallet controlled by Tu Weizhi.
