Is open-source code being misappropriated? Let's discuss how Web3 project teams should respect the spirit of open source.

【ChainNews】Recently, I came across something I want to share with everyone. The open-source product NoFx’s developer discovered that a project called ChainOpera AI directly deployed their old version code from a month ago on the testnet. The most outrageous part is that not only does the code still retain Nofx’s branding, but the homepage copy is also almost identical, only changing the UI and logo to pass it off as their own.

This team had long wanted to communicate properly with the other party via private message, but they were completely ignored. It’s really frustrating. The most important principles in the open-source community are transparency, attribution, and mutual respect. Simply copying and pasting like this is simply not acceptable in Web3.

Interestingly, ChainOpera AI recently completed a $17 million seed round of funding, with leading investors like IDG Capital participating. With such strong resources supporting them, they should focus on developing their own projects instead of doing this. Not only does this damage trust within the open-source community, but it also erodes their own project’s reputation.

Everyone working on projects in Web3, if you use open-source code, be sure to properly attribute and communicate. This is not a small matter; it’s the foundation of a healthy ecosystem.

tbh the data on open source violations in web3 is pretty damning here... ChainOpera literally just ctrl+c ctrl+v'd the whole thing lmao ngl this is exactly why we need on-chain attribution mechanisms, not just vibes-based community trust 1700M raised and can't even hire devs to write original code... governance failure at its finest

Haha, once they get funding, they start to get carried away. I really didn't expect this kind of operation to survive in Web3. That's why I dislike some new projects—they raise money and forget their original intention. Copying code without changing the brand logo? Pure plagiarism, it's outrageous. The open-source spirit is being so badly abused, honestly it's a bit disheartening. If collaboration doesn't work, just copy. This routine is indeed a characteristic of the crypto world. If this were a traditional industry, they'd be sued to death. Web3 is just a bit behind in this regard. Investors also don't do proper due diligence? 17 million just burned like that.

Typical Web3 scam tactics, raising so much funding and still copying code? Truly unbelievable. --- That's why I never trust projects with huge funding; they’re all fake. --- ChainOpera’s move is a textbook-level disgrace, daring to go live without even changing the signature. Is the community blind? --- Haha, these days even open source code gets copied. Web3 really has all kinds of weirdos and monsters. --- Raising 17 million and still doing petty tricks—it's not a lack of code, but a lack of shame, my friend. --- The spirit of open source is just a joke in the eyes of these profit-driven projects. --- Such things have become commonplace in the crypto world; as long as they can raise funds, they’ll do anything. --- Ignoring private messages, this attitude says it all—clearly not taking the community seriously. --- Just changing the UI and logo to try to get by? They’re treating developers like fools.

Haha, they can raise 17M this way too. Looks like VCs don't even look at the code. --- Same old story, just change the skin and claim it's your own. What kind of operation is this in Web3? --- Nofx needs to learn from this. Open source requires proper licensing. --- Raised so much money yet still have to dig through others' code. That logic is truly incredible. --- Didn't even bother to reply to private messages? Such an attitude is really arrogant. Sooner or later, they'll crash and burn.

Haha, isn't this just copying homework directly? After raising 17 million, they still play like this? --- nofx's guys are really unlucky. Even when they try to communicate properly, they're ignored. Is this what the Web3 circle is like? --- Copy-pasting code and still leaving the nofx logo. How careless can they be... --- The spirit of open source has been trampled on like this, and there's IDG endorsement? Outrageous. --- Just thinking about it makes me angry. If this happened to me, I would have started tearing it apart already. --- A project with 17 million USD doing this kind of thing—truly unbelievable. --- The homepage copy is the same, only the logo and UI changed. This guy is too arrogant. --- Web3 project teams, it's time to reflect on the open source matter. --- They used it directly without replying to private messages. That operation is really unprofessional. --- The most outrageous thing is that nofx's logo is still inside. Can this be called their own code?

Typical fundraising scammer tactics, take the money and start doing whatever they want? It's really outrageous, the open-source spirit here has become a joke. This kind of issue should have been on-chain governance long ago, otherwise bad actors will just follow suit. Raised 17 million and still trying to steal code, indicating that these people never really planned out how to develop the product. ChainOpera haha, I’ll remember this name. They don’t even reply to private messages, just bullying honest people. After getting funding, they become even more arrogant, typical.

I'm really speechless about copying and pasting. Raising $17 million in funding and still doing this?
