The Ceará State Information Technology Company (Etice) aims to facilitate the state’s Bitcoin mining activities by providing the necessary infrastructure. The company’s chairman, Hugo Figueirêdo, confirmed this in an interview.
“Cryptocurrency mining involves data centers that consume large amounts of energy. These data centers can be located in Ceará, which has abundant renewable energy sources and competitive prices. Etice can attract and connect these specialized data centers through its digital corridor fiber optic infrastructure,” Figueirêdo said.
Etice is a fully state-controlled corporation with the goal of creating technological solutions for public administration in Ceará.
According to Hugo Figueirêdo, the company does not plan to mine Bitcoin directly in its data centers. Instead, these centers will focus on sovereign data processing to provide public services to the people of Ceará.
The company’s interest in cryptocurrency mining was initially expressed by the chairman during a media interview. The executive also explained that the company is actively exploring business opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence.
By 2025, Etice’s revenue is expected to be around 500 million reais, with 80% coming from services provided and only 20% from the operation of the digital corridor—its most prominent asset. The executive stated that if the Ceará government had not injected 50 million reais, the company would have ended the year with a loss of 10 million reais.
The Ceará Digital Corridor is a fiber broadband infrastructure created by Etice in 2007. It currently covers 5,800 kilometers across the state, serving 130 cities, with the goal of covering all 184 cities in Ceará.
