Solana Mobile announced on Wednesday (7) that it will distribute its new SKR token via airdrop to Seeker smartphone users and developers in its mobile ecosystem on January 20. However, users of the Solana Saga, the company’s previous model, will not be eligible for the new token distribution.
Although an official Solana Mobile post indicates that the airdrop will occur on January 21, in UTC time zone, the distribution date will be at 11 PM (Brasília time) on January 20.
The airdrop will grant 20% or 2 billion unlocked SKR tokens to Seeker holders, the second generation of the Solana Mobile phone, and to app developers for the crypto-focused mobile device. In total, 30% of the 10 billion SKR tokens have been reserved for airdrop incentives.
The first season of Seeker has been completed, with over 265 dApps, 9 million transactions, and $2.6 billion in volume. More than 100,000 users participated.
“SKR will give everyone who brought us here the opportunity to influence the success of this platform: who can participate, what rules they must follow, and what economic flows keep it running,” published Emmett Hollyer, General Manager of Solana Mobile. “This airdrop is the first step.”
More details about the claim and allocation process for the airdrop are expected soon. The mobile division of the layer-one network stated that an activity survey on Seeker devices was already conducted before the token launch, covering more than 9 million transactions since August.
In addition to the tokens distributed via airdrop, another 2.7 billion SKR, or 27% of the total supply, will be released during the token generation event on January 20 — 1 billion tokens for liquidity, 1 billion for the community treasury, and 700 million for growth and partnerships. Another 1.8 billion SKR will be released linearly to support future growth initiatives.
“Our plans haven’t changed: we are building the easiest and safest way to participate in internet capital markets from the supercomputer in your pocket,” Hollyer published. “SKR is a crucial step toward an open ecosystem that will bring more devices, more developers, and more users.”
More than 150,000 Seeker devices have been pre-ordered by cryptocurrency users. The Seeker is sold for $500. The Saga, the previous model, stopped receiving software updates and security patches in October and will not be eligible for the SKR airdrop.
