Reconsidering Token Buybacks in Crypto Projects

The regulatory uncertainty surrounding crypto has muddied the waters on what actually works for early-stage projects. When it comes to token buybacks? They're often more of a liability than a solution.

But here's where it gets interesting—what if we rethought the whole structure?

Instead of traditional buybacks, some argue the real answer lies in giving tokens genuine equity rights. The logic is compelling: if tokens represent actual ownership stakes with voting power and revenue claims, buybacks become less necessary. You're not artificially propping up price through market operations. Instead, token holders have real skin in the game—profit sharing, governance participation, the works.

The tension is real though. Most early projects don't have the infrastructure or revenue to justify full equity treatment. So the question becomes: do we force-fit equity mechanics into immature projects, or do we design token economics around what actually scales?

It's not just theoretical. How teams approach this shapes whether their tokenomics stay relevant three years down the line or become a cautionary tale.

The buyback approach has long been outdated. The real solution is to give tokens actual rights and benefits, otherwise it's just self-deception.

Buybacks, in essence, are like closing your eyes and stealing a bell; it's better to give tokens real rights... However, early-stage projects lack even basic infrastructure, and forcing equity mechanics is just suicidal. The key is how the team designs it—three years from now, it will either take off or become a textbook negative example.

Wake up, buyback is just closing your ears to steal a bell... What really needs to be done is to give the token real rights, otherwise it's all pointless.

Buying back this set of things is long outdated. Back in the Bitcoin days, there weren't these tricks... What truly matters is the governance rights and dividends you hold in your hands. Don't get chopped up like a leek.

The whole "Wawa buyback" thing? It should have been exposed long ago... The real issue is that most projects don't have the funds to support that kind of equity setup, which is embarrassing.
