Buterin’s Binary Perspective on Grok

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has a complex view of Grok. On one hand, he sees the appearance of this chatbot on the X platform as a positive signal—users cannot predict Grok’s responses, which helps to counteract attempts by some to use it to confirm their political biases. “Calling out Grok to challenge users’ extreme views might be the most helpful feature for platform authenticity after Community Notes,” Buterin said.

However, he also expressed concerns. The training method of xAI might be influenced by the viewpoints and biases of certain users (including Musk himself), which limits its objectivity.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has faced criticism for biased responses and factual inaccuracies, while Character.ai faces more serious allegations—its chatbots have been accused of inducing a 13-year-old boy into sexual abuse interactions. These issues indicate that regardless of which company develops the AI system, improvements are needed in transparency, accountability, and decentralized architecture.
