The way AI models get distributed needs a complete rethink. Why lock everything behind expensive APIs and proprietary platforms?

Give users actual options—sell perpetual licenses, let people run these things on their own machines, enable real ownership instead of eternal dependency.

Wanna create a walled garden? Fine. But people will find ways around it anyway. You can either embrace open access or watch your work get bypassed. The choice is yours.

That's right, locking the model is a dead end; sooner or later, open-source projects will outshine it.

That's right, the closed-source vampire mode will eventually fade away. Open source is the way to go.

The permanent license system should have been popularized long ago. It's really unreasonable to still be benefiting from the subscription model now.

nah this is just cope from people who can't afford the api calls tbh. open source sounds nice until you realize maintenance costs real money and most devs ghost their projects in 6 months lol

Permanent license vs pay-per-use, a simple calculation reveals which is the more capital-efficient optimal solution. OpenAI's model is essentially an advanced hedging strategy that locks users in.

It should have been like this long ago; monopoly is the real enemy. Long live open source.

ngl this whole "eternal dependency" angle... pattern analysis suggests we've seen this exact playbook before. closed ecosystems = centralized attack surface. let me pull the data on api backdoors and you'll see what i mean. perpetual licenses hit different fr fr
