In the Web3 storage space, those who have been in the game for a long time have definitely seen the same套路. The white paper is beautifully written, with all kinds of parameters pushed to the max, TPS, redundancy rate, data recovery speed all showcased, and the launch event talks as if they are about to save the world. So what happened? Two years have passed, and very few projects are actually in use.

If you say the technology is not good, that's not entirely correct. The key issue is the wrong direction.

Walrus managed to stand out not because its technology is superior, but because the project team has figured out a core question: in Web3, technology itself is not the destination; generating real value through implementation is.

Look, where do most storage projects fail? In the internal competition. Why? Because they hold a deeply ingrained assumption — as long as the technology is advanced enough, application scenarios will naturally come. But reality follows a completely different logic.

Web3 scenarios are never attracted by something; they are "locked in" by certain needs. Walrus didn't compete with Filecoin or Arweave over who is more decentralized or who has more extreme security measures. It asked a more solid question: who is willing to keep spending money on storage?

The answer is very clear — AI and RWA. This understanding is Walrus's first step towards breaking through.

Enlightenment: most projects really die on imagination.

Well said. That's why most storage projects ultimately end up as just PPT presentations. Having impressive technical indicators alone isn't enough; someone has to actually be willing to pay for it.

Exactly right, this exposes the hypocritical nature of the storage track. A bunch of projects are just technical show-offs, what real application do they have?

Exactly right, this is the truth of the storage track. Most projects are just technical show-offs, and what about the users? They've already left early.

Really, this wave of Walrus's approach is indeed different. Instead of obsessing over technical parameters, it has asked the most cutting question—who the hell would really pay for storage? Much more clear-headed than projects that boast about TPS all day long.

That was a bit harsh haha, the white paper approach indeed fooled quite a few people. Walrus's move to focus on AI and RWA is truly clever, not about parameters but about who can actually make money.
