The upgrade in AIP-127 fundamentally shifts how the VM handles gas calculations. Previously, every reachable module consumed gas regardless of whether your transaction actually interacted with it. That changed everything. Now the system only meters modules when they're first accessed, and your gas costs directly reflect the actual execution path you take. This means leaner transactions and more efficient resource utilization across the network.

aip-127 finally addresses the inefficiency vector that's been bleeding value across the network... lazy gas metering was literally just free alpha for sophisticated extractors. now execution paths actually matter, which means the arbitrage surface just got way more granular. ngl, this is the kind of protocol-level optimization that separates the signal from the noise
