  • The license was granted on January 2 and expires on December 31, 2026.
  • Crixto has permissions to exchange fiat for cryptocurrencies and vice versa.

Venezuela’s National Superintendency of Cryptoactives and Related Activities (Sunacrip) granted a new operating license to the cryptocurrency platform Crixto, allowing it to operate legally within the national territory.

The official document is identified with number CI-SUNA-2026-001 and was issued on January 2, 2026. It establishes the platform’s operational validity until December 31 of this year. The authorization grants the company the authority to act as an intermediary in the cryptocurrency market in Venezuela, under the direct supervision of the regulatory body.

According to the license text, the platform will continue to have permission for exchanges of fiat money for digital assets and vice versa. The entity is authorized to execute peer-to-peer (P2P) exchanges, fund custody, and over-the-counter (O.T.C.) market services.

The authorization also includes functions as a payment gateway and agent, enabling the integration of these technologies into the country’s conventional commerce, mainly through banking.

The document was signed by Anabel Pereira Fernández, in her capacity as National Superintendent (E) of the institution. The official based the granting on the powers conferred by the Constituent Decree on the Comprehensive Cryptoasset System, originally published in the Official Gazette No. 41,575 in January 2019.

Regulation of digital asset use in Venezuela

This regulation aims to regulate activities involving distributed ledger technologies and the use of assets such as bitcoin (BTC) in the Caribbean country.

The license states that Crixto’s operation is subject to compliance with national and international laws and guidelines regarding risk management.

Specifically, the company must follow recommendations on preventing money laundering and terrorist financing, and it is exposed to sanctions provided by law if violations are detected in its supervision processes.

Crixto has partnered with dozens of stores in Venezuela, some of which are well-known in the country. This allows payment for products and services with the stablecoin USD Tether (USDT), although merchants receive bolívares.

This mechanism functions as a payment gateway that processes the automatic conversion of digital assets into fiat money. When a customer makes a payment with the stablecoin, the platform authorized by Sunacrip acts as a financial intermediary.

The system settles the transaction immediately, allowing the user to deduct the amount from their wallet while the merchant receives the equivalent in bolívares directly into their bank account.
