Democracy is a failing system.

This isn’t a controversial opinion if you look at the data.
The average US Senator is 65 years old. Their retirement is fully funded. They will never live through the consequences of what they vote for today.
They live on 4 year cycles and never care about the long term consequences.
They are CEOs with no skin in the game.
California started planning high speed rail in 2008. Budget then: $33 billion. Budget now: $128 billion. Miles of track completed: ZERO.
Japan built its bullet train network in four years. In 1964.
We can’t beat 1964 Japan.
Meanwhile the average Chinese citizen’s life expectancy has gone from 44 in 1960 to 78 today. They built 26,000 miles of high speed rail. They went from subsistence farming to the world’s largest manufacturing economy in one generation.
One generation.
The counterargument is always freedom. And it’s real. I’m not dismissing it.
But freedom to do what exactly. To watch your infrastructure crumble. To pay 40% in taxes for roads that look like war zones. To vote every four years for someone who will spend that term auditioning for their next lobbying job.
Plato called it 2,400 years ago.
Democracy collapses into demagoguery because voters choose comfort over competence every single time.
We are living the proof.
