The Japanese Prime Minister held talks with the visiting South Korean President to discuss bilateral relations and other issues.
On August 23, Jin10 reported that on the evening of the 23rd local time, Japanese Prime Minister Shio Abe held a Japan-South Korea summit with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at the Prime Minister’s residence. During this meeting, Prime Minister Shio Abe plans to promote the building of trust between the leaders of Japan and South Korea and confirm that they will maintain close communication through the “shuttle diplomacy” mechanism of reciprocal visits between leaders. In areas such as economic and cultural exchanges, both sides are expected to discuss further cooperation, including the ongoing coordination to expand the working holiday visa system, allowing applicants to obtain up to two visas. In terms of security, both sides are expected to exchange views on military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Shio Abe expressed hope to further strengthen security cooperation among Japan, the U.S., and South Korea based on Japan-South Korea collaboration. Additionally, the agenda may also involve topics such as the sharp population decline and low birth rate. After the meeting, the leaders of Japan and South Korea will jointly attend a press conference.
