Asian midday: Japanese stocks lead losses S&P 500 futures rebound

Following the overnight decline in U.S. stocks, Asian stocks fell for the first time in three days, as optimism about the Fed’s prospect of interest rate cuts weakened, and investors reduced their holdings by the end of the year. Japanese stock indexes underperformed after Toyota fell amid a Daihatsu safety scandal and a massive recall in the United States. S&P 500 futures edged up 0.3% as sentiment stabilized after Wednesday’s sharp decline. The Nasdaq rose about 0.4%. The U.S. dollar weakened against most major currencies. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose one basis point to 3.86%.
