Jordan's King: Implementing the 'two-state solution' is the only way to ensure security in the Middle East.
On August 11, local time, King Abdullah II of Jordan met with a visiting delegation of assistant members of the United States Congress. The two sides discussed the development of the regional situation and other issues. Abdullah II said that it is necessary to do its utmost to reduce regional tensions, promote a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and prevent the situation in the Middle East from spiraling out of control and sliding into a regional war. He stressed that as long as the conflict in Gaza continues, the region will continue to face the risk of conflict expansion and the stability of the region will be threatened, and international efforts must be strengthened to promote a ceasefire in Gaza. He reiterated that no one should be allowed to use Jordan as a battlefield or that the lives of Jordanians should be threatened. He stressed the need to find a political vision for a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-State solution, which was the only way to ensure security for the Palestinians, Israel and the region as a whole. He also stressed the need for the international community to continue to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East so that it could provide humanitarian services to millions of Palestinians in the region, in accordance with its mandate.
