There is a common misconception in the market: Can Canadian oil go anywhere? Look at the map and see the distribution of heavy oil refineries in the United States. The return of Venezuela to the market has indeed changed the situation, but this does not mean that the North American heavy oil trade pattern has collapsed. The refining facilities along the US Gulf Coast are specifically designed to process heavy crude oil—Canadian bitumen flows to these places, and economic laws are in play. Some opinions sound convincing but cannot withstand scrutiny; perhaps it's time to pursue other business opportunities. The true story behind geopolitical energy policies and market flows is often much more complex than surface-level narratives.

Another example of reverse thinking—it's actually just stubbornly clinging to the old pattern.

To be honest, Venezuela's move did indeed deceive quite a few people.

Geography determines everything. Even if Venezuela returns, it can't change the fact that those refineries in the Gulf of Mexico were long tailored for heavy oil.
