Shorting or longing altcoins? That’s basically self-punishment. Liquidity is inherently a bottleneck, and during the time a big player manipulates the market—either pumping or dumping—your position could be liquidated directly. I’ve seen it too many times—some trash coin skyrockets without any logic, someone thinks it’s outrageous and opens a short position, only to be wiped out by a violent rebound and end up owing money. Once is enough for such incidents to happen.

Compared to that, mainstream coins like $BTC and $ETH are much more reliable choices. Liquidity is there, so you won’t face those strange spike movements that scare you out. At this position, the risk-reward ratio of going long on mainstream coins is clearly more reasonable—market sentiment has already rebounded somewhat, and the difficulty of cost averaging is much lower than shorting altcoins.

Instead of betting on assets that could be wiped out at any moment, it’s better to concentrate funds on more certain assets. The current stage is a game of patience; patient people often earn what impatient people lose.
